Holidaymakers are being ripped-off by faulty airport check-in scales, watchdogs have found. Trading Standards officers in West Sussex tested more than 600 scales at Gatwick Airport and found that more than 20 per cent were inaccurate.

20% is a lot of scales off balance. Scales should be calibrated as often as needed. But I believe its something that people dont think about very often so it goes unchecked for long periods of time. I dont believe its intentional.
